Official Plan and Zoning By-law Review

A review of the Official Plan helps by using objectives and goals to set out a direction for the growth and development for the Township of Strong.

The Official Plan addresses matters related to land use such as housing, transportation, economic development, the natural environment, agriculture and infrastructure. The purpose of the project is to complete a review and update the Municipality’s Official Plan so that is consistent with the most recent Provincial Policy Statement, the Planning Act and any Legislative changes. The plan is based on the findings of background studies & public consultation. This plan and it's policy framework is used by Council and Administration staff to make well informed land use decisions.

A review of the Zoning By-law ensures it aligns with contemporary development standards, reflects the goals of the updated Official Plan, and guides future growth while maintaining public safety, health, and property values.

The Zoning By-law regulates each zonings permitted uses, setbacks, density, height, parking, and landscape standards. The zones included, but are not limited to: rural, rural residential, commercial, industrial and institutional. The purpose of the project is to update the Comprehensive Zoning By-law to ensure conformity with the updated Official Plan in accordance with the Planning Act. These standards provide legally enforceable regulations for development, which is managed by the Township's Administration Department to ensure the standards are upheld.​​​

Public input is essential throughout the review process. Residents can provide feedback or ask questions at any time.  A public survey, public open houses and stakeholder meetings will also provide a forum for discussion and input.
