Dave Wright and Mike Czura requesting council snow plow Homestead Lane as they feel it has been improved.  Council advised Mr. Wright of the procedures that must be followed before Council would consider assuming responsibility for the road.

Katherine Buckle presented to Council plans to install a portable to be placed on the property.  This portable will be used as office space for staff as they are running out of room. 

Discussion items:

Council reviewed the comment forms received from:
Norman Nobes regarding water run off – Merlyn Snow will contact Mr. Nobes to discuss this issue.

Mr. Heard regarding the culvert at Heards Lane – the Road Department will be asked to clean out the culvert.

Mountainview Road – Council will not be providing winter maintenance on this road and will advise the Ministry of Transportation.

Office Renovation project – Contact McLaren Construction to determine if this project will be started in the fall.

Jim Mahonney – By-Law Enforcement Officer attended the meeting.  Mr. Mahonney discussed several items with council.

The Council for the Township of Strong approve payment to the Lake Bernard Property Owners Association in the amount of $ 126.00 for water testing.          Carried

The Council for the Township of Strong does hereby approve 3 staff attending the AMCTO Municipal Election Seminar on November 9, 2009 in North Bay at a cost of $693.00 and is aware the Municipal office will be closed on November 9, 2009 while staff attend the training.  Carried

Chris Ellis – Merlyn Snow:

The Council for the Township of Strong does hereby amend the Sundridge Strong Joly Arena, Hall & Ballfield Agreement dated the 10th of June 2002 as follows:

Item 1 (b) shall read:

That the Council of the Township of Strong Shall elect from among their members 2 council members to sit as a member of the Committee.  The appointment is to take place at the first regular meeting of the New Council in December and the appointment to be effective for a Four year term to reflect the term of council beginning January 1st following the appointment.  As administrators of the Arena, the Township of Strong will appoint a member of the office staff to act as Secretary of the Committee and shall be paid a stipend for each meeting attended by the Committee.

Item 4 shall read:

A quorum for the committee shall consist of at least one member from each council represented.                                                                                                           Carried

The Council for the Township of Strong does hereby appoint Merlyn Snow as an additional representative on the Sundridge Strong & Joly Arena, Hall and Ball field Board.   Carried

The Council for the Township of Strong does hereby support the Sundridge Strong Recreation Committee and hereby appoint Christine Ellis and Vi Montpetit as our representatives on the committee.                                                                                            Carried

Be it resolved that this Council support the recommendation of the SSJ Arena & Hall & Ball Field Committee that Myles Pepin, Arena Manager, take on the position of “Program Director” on a six month trial basis.                                                                       Carried

Be it resolved that this Council does hereby agree to purchase a $50 wreath for the Remembrance Day Services November 11th in the Legion Hall at 10:30 am             Carried.

Be it resolved that this Council does hereby authorize Vi attend the Muskoka Trails workshop in Bracebridge October 15, 2009.                                                                     Carried

Be it resolved that this Council hereby recommend the nomination of Jocelyn Palm to the North Bay and Mattawa Conservation Authority – Dorothy Walford Memorial Award for her continued dedication to protecting the environment and her continued programs that teach young people the  importance of becoming more environmentally responsible.        Carried

Be it resolved that this Council does hereby support the investigation process to relocate the Library to the Sundridge Public School and hereby wish to proceed with the process.  Carried.

Be it resolved that this Council hereby recommend purchase of 2010 diaries at a cost of $3.89 per diary to a limit of 50 copies.                                                                                  Carried

Be it resolved that this Council does hereby strongly oppose any consideration of closing the South River Public School and the Magnetawan Public School.   Carried

The Council for the Township of Strong do now adjourn at  8:55 p.m. until the next scheduled meeting of Council on October 27, 2009 or at the call of the Mayor.
