The Township of Strong held their regular meeting on February 9, 2010 at 5:30 in council chambers.  Members present were:

Mayor – Stephen Rawn,

Councillors, Christine Ellis, Vi Montpetit, John Newstead, Merlyn Snow

Guests:

Al Tomek – City of North Bay – Hazardous Waste Facility.  Mr. Tomek advised council that the North Bay Hazardous Waste Facility is now able to receive hazardous waste from other municipalities should they wish to participate in this program.  The cost to the municipality would be $2.00 per household.  Their facility is open year round Wednesday to Saturday and they accept most hazardous materials. 

 

Tom Crane – Tom Crane was asked to provide council with some options and pricing on signs to be put at the various parks around the Lakes.  Council will review the proposal and determine how many signs and their locations.

 

Lyle Thorne- Mr. Thorne made a presentation to council expressing concern with the format in which individuals have available to them should they wish to file a complaint against and OPP officer.  He provided council with documentation for their review.  He also requested council consider a Police Services Board as this would give municipalities more input as to services provided.

 

John McBride, Bill Fitzgerald -  Fowlers Construction-Attended the meeting to advise council  they are nearing completion of all the required studies and reports required regarding the re-zoning application.  These reports should be available for review within the next month.  A public meeting date will be determined.

 

Trow Engineering- Bruce Roberts, Eric Gonneau of Trow Engineering and Ray Hong from MTO.  They provided council with the latest drawings on the Pevensey Road, Muskoka Road improvements once the four lane highway is completed.  These drawings will be available at a public meeting to be held on February 25, 2010 at the Armour Ryerson & Burk’s Falls Arena from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.   They requested council provide any comments or concerns to their office for consideration.

 

Dave Pringle – Road Superintendant provided council with an update on equipment and roads.  Dave gave council a report on the workshop presented by Miller Paving and the workshop for Road Superintendants he recently attended.

044-2010 J. D. Newstead – Vi Montpetit
That the Council for the Township of Strong hereby accept the Tender from the Almaguin News as presented for subscriptions, notices, set advertising rate for classified advertising notices in the amount of $ 150.00 plus GST.                                                                                  Carried

045-2010 J. D. Newstead – Vi Montpetit:

That the Council for the Township of Strong have read the Resolution circulated by the Township of McMurrich Monteith expressing concern with the 17% increase in the Emergency Medical Services Budget as presented;

And That supports the request for a review of the budget to reflect the current economic situation and to be lowered to a more acceptable level for 2010 budget year ;

And request the Committee to review the budget to look for further savings in order to decrease the municipal levies;                                                                                 Carried

 

 

 

 

046-2010 Merlyn Snow – Chris Ellis:

That Council of the Township of Strong hire Larry Barry to offer in house training to staff on the computers on a weekly basis of $ 25.00 per hour for 8 hours.                       Carried

 

047-2010 J. D. Newstead – Chris Ellis:

That the Council for the Township of Strong approve the quotation from Cover-All for a building extension in the amount of $15798.83 including taxes to be included in the 2010 budget.

And include another $5,000.00 that may be required for ground preparation in the 2010 Landfill # 1 Budget.                                                                                                                         Carried

 

048-2010 Merlyn Snow – Chris Ellis:

That the Council for the Township of Strong hereby adjourn at  9.50 p.m. until the next regular meeting of Council on February 23, 2010. 

The above minutes will not be adopted by council until their next regular meeting on February 23, 2010.
